AARP Caregiving Guide

AARP helps you find caregiving support and services for your aging parents. This extremely comprehensive guide provides articles, tools, and other resources on the following topics: Care at home, Care in a nursing facility, Long-term care, End-of-life, Emotional coping strategies, Legal & Financial considerations, Dementia, Life Balance and more. Elder Care Locator

A public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging, Elder Care Locator connects you to services for older parents and their families. Enter your zip code or City/State to find local resources. The site provides  links to helpful organizations to help you in the areas of: In-House Support Services, Housing, Elder Rights, Insurance & Benefits, Health and Transportation. The site also features a Caregiver Corner with articles related to care giving.

Alzheimer's Association

Helpful information and resources for those living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer's or other dementias. 24/7 hotline: (800) 272-3900. Articles on knowing the signs of Alzheimer's, what to do when diagnosed with the disease, care options, emotional support for caregivers, links to support programs involving peers and professionals.

Parkinson's Foundation

Resources for caregivers of people with Parkinson's disease. Contact the Helpline at 1-800-473-4636 for answers to Parkinson's questions. You can enter your zip code to find free local resources.

NIH National Institute on Aging

The Caregiving section of Health Information on the NIA website provides advice to caregivers in the following areas: Long-term care, Advanced care planning, Long-distance caregiving, Alzheimer's Caregiving, Self-care. The Health Information section also provides helpful information about Alzheimer's, End of Life, Lifestyle advice (Nutrition, Exercise), and offers colorful, downloadable infographics about aging and health-related issues of aging.

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services - Caregiver Resources

Provides information, resources, and links to support programs, such as the Family Caregiver Support Program. Also provides links to ogranizations that train caregivers, articles on self-care, how to provide day-to-day care, and how to become a paid caregiver.

Alaska Family Caregiver Support Program

Services provided to the unpaid family or informal caregiver of anyone 60 and over, caregivers of anyone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, or grandparents, or relatives, who are 55 and over, caring for relative children. Council on Aging of Central Oregon

This organization offers programs, support, guidance, and referrals to the people that need it most:  families, partners, friends, and paid or unpaid caregivers who provide care for another adult. Call (541) 678-5483. Support can include:

  • Information about and access to services and resources
  • Individual counseling and support groups. Caregiver support groups help each other by practicing self-care, sharing resources, and discussing the challenges of caregiving for a loved one. Our case managers can help you find support options.
  • Limited respite grants range from $500 to $1,000 to unpaid family caregivers needing respite care.
